Access to this menu in Betools through: LiveTVIcon.png Live > Blackout > Mediaroom > Blackout Collections

By using Blackouts, OBs can substitute a given TV channel (blackout channel) with other predefined alternate TV channel, for a group of users usually based on geographic location (Blackout region) and for a given time period. For example, some sports leagues only permit games to be televised in their local area if a certain minimum number of tickets are sold to the game, otherwise the game is blacked out for the users in this specific area. In order to manage blackouts the operator must be a member of OB Administrator’s group. The Blackout Agent synchronizes only channels (call-letters) that have a FS (Full Screen) and PIP (Picture-in-Picture). If a live channel does not have a related PIP service, it will not be synchronized in MiB.

Blocks

Blackout Collections

This screen allows the Operator to create, update or delete a Blackout Collection and add channels to it. The channels have to be grouped into Blackout Collections in order to be able to define Blackout Schedules between them.

Blackout Channels

A Blackout Collection is composed of Blackout Channels (see the current limitations regarding the max number of Blackout Channels a Collection can contain). For that was created a block called Blackout Collection Selection:

BlackOut Channels Block

Add existing Blackout Channel

  • Click the AddExisting.png button and a dialog will open to select and existing Live Channel.
  • Once finished, save changes by using the Save3.png in the Blackout Collections page and the channel will be associated.

Remove Live channel from Blackout Channel

  • Use the Deletebutton.png button to remove the association of a channel from the Blackout Channel .
  • Once finished, save changes by using the Save3.png in the Blackout Collections page.

Mediaroom Synchronization Workflow

Once the Blackout Collection is saved, the Blackout Agent will perform the Blackout Collection synchronization with Mediaroom, this is, will create/update/delete the Blackout Collection in Mediaroom.

The Mediaroom Synchronization Workflow provides the synchronization status information for the operator. If an error occurs during the sync process, an error will be shown in this workflow and it will provide all the information necessary to fix it.

Mediaroom Synchronization Workflow Block

Important: Once the Blackout Collection sync has been executed, Mediaroom requires a SDRN to be sent, so the information is refreshed in the STBs. Take this into account as this step is required before being able to configure a new Blackout Schedule using the Blackout Collection. In addition, it is recommended to go to the corresponding Restart TV Channel for the instance, and click on the save button (without changing anything), in order to update the channel list.
